Johny Hendricks has a golden opportunity against Jon Fitch at UFC 141

Johny Hendricks at UFC 141 has the opportunity of a lifetime.

Rich Finaldi here once again for Combat Athlete MMA Johny Hendricks at UFC 141 on December 30th this year, has the opportunity of a lifetime. He will battle Jon Fitch to gain rights to become one of the top contenders or “the” top contender for Georges St. Pierre’s UFC welterweight belt. Just as in his low key demeanor, Johny Hendricks is going up to the top of the UFC’s welterweight division barely being noticed . This 2 time NCAA Division I champ from Oklahoma State University has a UFC record unblemished at 5-1 , and a 11-1 overall professional MMA record, only to lose a very close fight to up and coming welterweight Rick Story. Johny Hendricks faces a very stout wrestler in his own right, Jon Fitch boasted a 97-12 record at Purdue University. Fitch is considered the #2 welterweight in the world according to Sherdog.com even though Mr. Nick Diaz is fighting Georges St. Pierre for the title in 2012. Johny Hendricks is ranked a very respectable #8 in the world by Sherdog.

Johny Hendricks both him and the beard are ready for Jon Fitch.

Johny’s beard since being shaved after his victory over Mike Pierce has since grown into full effect from what I hear ready for combat :) . I also know for fact that Johny Hendricks has endured the roughest training camp of his career, working his wrestling feverishly, as well as his other skill sets. He has taken diet fitness guru Mike Dolce creator of the Dolce Diet into his corner being in the best overall shape he can be against Jon FitchJohny Hendricks every improving striking game starting to wake up people in the MMA community. He has knocked out notable fighters Amir Sadollah, and Charlie Brenneman. I saw this against Pierce, Hendricks has the complete repertoire. He really doesn’t have a glaring weakness, it’s just that he’s starting to blossom into a great fighter hitting his peak.  He has a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Marc Laimon Johny’s Brazilian Jiu Jiusu coach, but don’t let that fool you Johny Hendricks has beaten world champ Bruno Bastos. So Johny’s Jiu Jitsu is very strong.

Johny Hendricks, Jon Fitch:  How both fighters view this clash

Before this fight was set TEAM TAKEDOWN and Johny Hendricks were hoping to get Jon Fitch. The thought process was after beating some good fighters that this was a good fight to get into upper echelon of the UFC’s welterweight division, and they got it. I say for one Johny definitely deserves it.  Jon Fitch on the other hand feels that if he’s the number ranked welterweight in the world then he should be fighting Georges St. Pierre not Nick Diaz. He doesn’t understand why he’s fighting the lower Hendricks. He doesn’t know if he’s done something wrong in the UFC’s eyes concerning his style of fighting. Jon is not thrilled about fighting Johny Hendricks, but boy oh boy that can play right into Hendrick’s hands. My personal opinion I think Fitch is looking right past Hendricks which could be the deciding factor in the fight in favor for Johny Hendricks. I think it’s a big mistake on Fitch’s part. Johny could very well be the dark horse of the division. Just for giggles I think Johny matches up great with GSP, for one with his wrestling George’s would have a tough time taking down Johny, and number two Johny Hendricks is very much a precision striker like GSP, it would be interesting to say the least. If I get a copy of UFC Undisputed 3 for Christmas this year maybe I can find out and pit them against each other! :) I can tell you one thing right now Johny Hendricks is ever improving and, will be a force to be reckoned with in the this fight, and in the future in the UFC.
