UFC 148 SILVA/SONNEN II will the fight punch as hard as the hype?
Rich Finaldi here once again for Combat Athlete MMA UFC 148 SILVA/SONNEN II will finally touchdown this Saturday July 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. My headline, “Will the fight punch as hard as the hype?”. It had better! I am as excited as anyone to see this fight, but I just fear a sub par performance from Chael Sonnen or a grind it out back and forth clinch which will get many boos. Chael Sonnen really did a number on his buddy Brian Stann, if that Chael comes to the MGM this Saturday I really see Anderson Silva going down. I really think Anderson Silva as great as he is has that first fight in his head legitimately. I mean how could he not? Even though he does not lack any sort of self confidence, he took a whipping by Sonnen. He knows it, everyone knows it, and certainly Chael Sonnen knows it. I mean cmon if I was Chael Sonnen and and I knew I beat up Anderson Silva for four and half rounds and just got caught with my stupid arm out and got tapped, sure as hell I would think I’d had a huge upper hand on Silva. Now Anderson made a lot of harsh comments at the conference call in retaliation to Chael’s bantering, and clearly he’s had enough. I really think this plays right into Chael’s hands. Nonetheless this fight should bring out the best in both fighters.
At UFC 148 will Silva and Sonnen have respect for each other after the fight?
To answer this simply. I think yes. I will give you a few reasons why I think they will show signs of respect after this fight. I mean I could be wrong anything is possible, but it won’t be the first time 2 fighters absolutely hated each other that found some or a great level of respect for one another. Listen no matter what Chael Sonnen says he has to admit whether he likes it or not Anderson Silva’s body of work, and the same Anderson has to respect Chael’s success also, especially since he’s the one that almost took his belt away. Being said win or lose both fighter’s will respect the other no matter who wins. I really think this will be a battle for the ages unless Anderson has yet another trick up his sleeve for this fight like he did against Vitor Belfort when he knocked him out with that laser guided up kick. I tend to think that won’t happen. I think Chael Sonnen will definitely try to bring Anderson to the ground again and ground him out like he did last time which leads me to believe that Silva will do his best to defend the take down, maybe a knee to the head will be Anderson Silva’s defense. You know Anderson Silva does not want to get taken down under any circumstance knowing Sonnen’s a beast on top. I think he will do everything in his power to keep it a standing striking game. Chael’s objective of course is to tear down Silva’s defense of that. Chael was brash and arrogant but playfully funny as usual. Anderson Silva was pretty upset, and seems to be taking this as serious as a heart attack. I truly believe Chael has won the first battle already the battle of the mind. He’s got Silva emotional. That’s something that he’s never been before losing his cool. At the stand off Silva pushed into Sonnen, Dana White has to split them apart, but one thing I have to say Chael Sonnen kept his cool the whole time. He’s knows exactly what he’s doing like as sly as a fox. But more importantly what about after this fight. Simply stated if Chael Sonnen wins oh boy. What a huge boost to the PPV future ratings for his defense of his newly acquired belt. Could you imagine the hot air, and poetic slayings that will be coming out of his mouth for future opponents. The flip side if Anderson wins it will be huge for his legacy and his cementing I guess “again” as the worlds greatest mixed martial artist. What happens to Chael who knows, that will be very interesting. I really think if Jon Jones beats Dan Henderson at UFC 151 we could see long wanted super fight, Jones/Silva wow!
